Temp: 50′s F
Water: High, faster than normal, muddy
Weather: Windy, Cloudy to Partly Cloudy

It was a great opening day for trout.  We started the day out at 5:30am arriving at the park.  We were excited to see that the gates were already open and we were able to be on the water close to 6:00am.  We were amazed that by 7:00am approximately 30 fisherman were locked and loaded by the water awaiting the 8:00am start.

We started out by the corner of Lesher Road and found that it was difficult for those without waders to fish.  We had a report from our trusty fishing scout upstream that the water was fishing friendly.  Immediately we hiked up and were on the hole that produced about 7 fish in a couple hours.  I pulled 2 out of this spot, and one was a very yummy brookie that was about 12 inches.

Overall it was a beautiful day to be fishing.  The wind was whipping, but the 200ft cliff in front of us blocked it very nicely.  Overall we couldn’t complain about the day.  On the walk back I pulled out a little rainbow at the hole that we started at.  There are plenty of trout in the creek and plenty more to be caught this month.

I haven’t really gone public with my obsession for Deadliest Catch. It slowly started with Season 1 and then continued to just climb as time went on. Mostly a simple DVR of the show and it was cool. I would watch it…as time went on it got worse…the obsession grew and now…Alaskan Storm.

My wife began to laugh at me two nights ago because I stopped playing Alaskan Storm with my fishing bud Spanky J and immediately hopped on to the XXL Gaming League’s Captains Chat Room . Very new to the whole “Deadliest Catch League” my clout with the boys that I will be fishing against is low. These guys can virutally fish…I mean seriously…LunarJak schooled me last night…anyways I am rambling…

Here is the thing. I got to sit down and chit chat online with Sig Hanson…who frankly can come captain our pontoon boat anytime! It was a trip to just sit there and have some time with a guy that frankly is bringing me one of my favorite foods and having a blast doing it!!! On top of that helped develop a game…that I am totally hooked on!

Ok so what is the point to all this…well here it is. I have gotten tired over time by just watching the Bill Dances and Roland Martins out there for just bass fishing…ok I can catch the Spanish Fly or the Day on the Lake as well and get more variety in my fishing shows. Frankly nothing has captivated me like Deadliest Catch. Its funny how it all works…now I am a crab fishing nerd. Sure I have all my rods and reels and I go out on Visitation (our pontoon) and think I am fishing the high sees…but…a few times when the water gets choppy and we are out trolling…I tip my hat to Sig and the rest of the captains…cause frankly…they got the stones to get the job done!

On that note…Alaskan Storm needs to be played by all to appreciate the grinding it out of the catch…and on that note I shall go and sip some ice tea and plot my strings for tonight…another run on the Viritual Bering Sea!
